How many more times will we elect another shiny new saviour politician from the other party only to discover he's just like the last one? If that weren't the case, he wouldn't be allowed near the podium! (And because we're human, we're all susceptible to corruption.)

We need to face the fact that someone isn't coming to save us. If we want millenia of tyranny to end, we have to put on our big girl panties and govern our own selves! Yes it'll be a lot of work. But we're worth it.

What if real freedom comes from the local communities up? Maybe we need a local election system akin to conscription or jury duty. Everyone takes their turn like it or not. (Can people who want to be politicians be trusted?) Another council of overseers, also conscripted, watches over them. They're paid based on how well they do at saving money on needed infrastructure and providing necessary services instead of spending all they can get their hands on and getting paid anyway.

We don't need governing to avoid chaos. But we do need structure to look after infrastructure and deal with disputes. The current systems are broken and need to be brought back to the local level so there's accountability neighbour to neighbour. Maybe that's how we organize ourselves and keep our freedom too? We bring it back home to where we live. Then we have to be prepared to get involved.

With freedom comes personal responsibility. So far, the majority would rather just vote and forget about it for four years. We've been trained to want the easy way, the quick fix. That's how, in many respects, we've earned the tyranny we live under. Enough of us don't yet want freedom badly enough to take responsibility for it. Or we simply don't know how. Maybe that's what we need to work on now?
